📖 Discarding Decency by D. Mackenzie Fuller

Discarding Decency caught me completely off guard. I picked it up expecting a standard Australian crime novel and got something much stranger and more satisfying. BBiting social satire, set against the surf beaches of Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. Fuller has a terrific ear for the absurdity of modern life. The influencer media pile-ons, the crypto-bro posturing, the hollow language of corporate wellness. He skewers it all without ever turning the book into a lecture. The satire lands because it's always in service of character, never the other way around. My only caveat: the plot moves fast and Fuller trusts you to keep up. That's mostly a strength, but readers who like their thrillers neatly signposted may find it occasionally breathless. Debut novel. Genuinely impressive. I'll be watching what this author does next.
